Earthquake near Chicago

They're reporting an earthquake near Chicago this morning. A 5.2 tremblor. No kidding. I bet that woke their butts up.

Chicago lies on the north of the New Madrid fault.

Two hunting seasons ago we had a mild earthquake in the river bottom where I hunt in LaSalle Parish. I was sitting on the ground and leaning against a tree when the tree started shaking. I thought a bear was climbing down the tree. No kidding. I jumped up and looked up, then realized the ground was shaking. My cousin was hunting about 1/2 mile away, and he felt it too.

Alas, a geologist told me no guage was close enough to read it. He wasn't surprised it happened.

PS: the New Madrid Fault was what put the Mississippi River running backwards in 1803.

1811, and supposedly Tecumseh the Shawnee indian predicted it.
It was supposed to be the sign for all the indians to rise up against the whites.
Church bells rang in Boston (or Philadelphia, it's been a while since I read that), the Mississippi river ran backwards for a bit and Reelfoot Lake was formed.

Probably just the carp in the Chicago River trying to break into Lake Michigan.
